Success in Punjab sprouts AAP hope in Rajasthan, starts preparing for 2023 state election

The success of the AAP in Punjab has sown hope for the party in Rajasthan ahead of the state elections in 2023.

Digital Desk: Following its stunning victory in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has turned its attention to the Rajasthan Assembly elections, which will be held in December next year.

Reportedly, the party plans to send the same team to Rajasthan that helped the party win in Punjab.

However, political rivals, the Congress and the BJP, stated that the situation in Rajasthan is different from that in Punjab and that the AAP has no chance of winning in the state.

Notably, following the success in Punjab, the enthusiasm of AAP workers in Rajasthan has skyrocketed. AAP posters and hoardings have been seen on Jaipur's main streets.

Moreover, pictures of party leader Sanjay Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Punjab Chief Minister-designate Bhagwant Mann are gaining popularity in the state.

AAP said that it has already begun focusing on Rajasthan. "There is a lot of enthusiasm here after the victory in Punjab. In two months, preparations for next year's elections will begin. Based on how the party was received in Delhi and now in Punjab, we believe that AAP will become an alternative in Rajasthan. The team in charge of the AAP's election management in Punjab will be here. But, for the time being, the party will concentrate on strengthening the organization here," AAP state secretary Devendra Shastri said.

According to Shastri, the farmers' movement had a significant impact in the districts of Rajasthan bordering Punjab.

Sanjay Singh, the AAP's state in-charge and MP, has discussed the situation in the Ganganagar district, which borders Punjab.

Reportedly, an executive committee has been formed at the district level, and Kejriwal has visited Rajasthan to gauge public opinion.

In the 2018 Rajasthan elections, AAP contested candidates in 142 of the 200 seats and received only 0.4% of the vote, failing to win even one seat.

Given this context, the state's ruling party claims that AAP will not pose a challenge in the upcoming assembly elections.

"The Congress government's rule in Punjab was sluggish. However, the AAP has not fought elections aggressively in this country. And the Rajasthan government provides good governance." state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasara said.
