UP Polls Update: FIR against BJP mayor Pramila Pandey sharing photos of EVM, voting on WhatsApp
Digital Desk: Kanpur Mayor Pramila Pandey incited fuss on Sunday when she snapped and videotaped herself voting inside a polling station. The city councilwoman communicated a snapshot of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) she voted for at the Hudson polling station.

While voting, she even created a video and shared it with different WhatsApp groups. Consequently, the issue has been brought to the awareness of the District Magistrate, who has taken action against her.

In a tweet, the Kanpur district magistrate stated, "An FIR is been made against Mayor Pramila Pandey under relevant conditions for violation of voting secrecy at Hudson School polling station."

Another BJP figure, former BJYM city president Nawab Singh, filmed himself casting his ballot inside the polling station. His videotape has gone viral on social media, and officials have yet to determine whether or not to charge him.

In a particular happening, Samajwadi Party candidate Abhimanyu Gupta violated the regulations by filming himself voting on the EVM machine and posting it on Facebook. After obtaining knowledge of Pandey's actions, he later withdrew the video.

Today is the first day of voting in Uttar Pradesh's 59 assembly seats, split over 16 districts. The state's Assembly elections are in their third round of a seven-round process.

Six hundred twenty-seven candidates are operating in this round, and over 2.15 crore individuals can vote.

Taking and communicating pictures or tapes from within a polling booth is restricted. Yet, such examples resume occurring. For example, during the recent Uttarakhand elections, police charged two teenagers to snap EVMs from inside the voting booth and post them on social media.

According to information, SSP Pankaj Bhatt called the move after realizing that a resident of Jagdambanagar had taken pictures of himself voting and uploaded them on social media.
