desk: By posting a notice inside the Hanuman temple with the name of Hanuman
Ji, the East Central Railway has mandated that the temple be removed within 10
days. The issue involves Dhanbad's Berabandh neighborhood. A warning to leave
the land in Khatik Basti has been posted by the railway. The illegal
jhuggi-jhopri surrounding the Hanuman temple as well as both have been ordered
to be removed by the railroads.
In
Berakbandh's Khatik neighborhood, people have lived there for a long time. The
majority of the Khatik community's immigrants are from Uttar Pradesh. For
years, they have made a living by running small enterprises that deal with
water, fruits, fish, vegetables, and other items. The railway crew has posted a
notice asking residents of the area to leave any homes that are currently
occupied illegally. All of the residences have had notices with their names taped
on the walls.
In the
local Hanuman temple, a notice with Hanuman Ji's name was posted during this
time. In the notice, it is made quite clear that the temple you are using
illegally is on railroad property and bears the name of Hanuman Ji. Within 10
days of receiving the warning, remove the temple and vacate the property, then
turn it over to the Senior Section Engineer Department. Otherwise, you will be
the target of legal action.
The locals protested after receiving the warning. Many men
and women have assembled and claimed that although other religious facilities
have been constructed on hundreds of acres of railway land along the major
route, the railway never takes a look at them. There are about 230 families
living here; if an attempt is made to remove it without providing substitute
housing, then where will the people who have lived here for years go?
