Agnikanya Mamata meets PM Modi today

Political equation is zero

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. Mamata is on her four-day visit to the national capital.

They will be discussing the issues about the Border Security Force (BSF) and the development of the state.

This visit is the second visit of the Trinamool chairperson to Delhi following the West Bengal Assembly polls. Mamata’s party had registered a thumping victory over the Bharatiya Janata Party in the last session.

“I am moving to Delhi today [Monday] because day after tomorrow, I have an appointment with the Prime Minister on the BS issue and other development issues related to West Bengal,” Mamata informed before leaving for Delhi.

Moreover, she attacked the Union Government for exercising Central forces to help the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Recently, the Union Home Ministry issued a notification on BSF jurisdiction. The notification pointed that the stretching the BSF’s jurisdiction from 15 km to 50 km along the border has fitted as an issue between the Centre and the State Government.

The Trinamool Government passed a resolution in the Assembly asking the Centre to withdraw the notification.

Mamata also criticized the Centre for not making sufficient funds obtainable to the State especially after West Bengal went through natural disasters like cyclones and floods.

The decision of visiting also comes days after the Prime Minister has announced the repeal of the three farm laws.

Mamata Banerjee had extended help to the protesting farmers and sent numerous delegations of party MPs to reach the farmers. The TMC leader is likely to meet a few leaders of the farmers’ movement in Delhi.

Furthermore, two visits to the national capital in less than six months further indicates the growing aspirations of the TMC as it is keen on displaying itself as a pan-Indian party.
