Assam Floods: Cachar cancels ferry services after Barak River swells

The district administration of Cachar has temporarily discontinued all ferry services on the Barak River as the river starts flowing above the danger level.

The announcement on the halting of the ferry services was made by the Executive Engineer of Water Transport Department B Choudhary through a notification.

The decision comes in the backdrop of the incessant rains swelling the water level of the Barak River. Assam has been impaled by the flood situation triggered by continuous rain leading to erosion and landslides in many parts of the region. Almost 6 lakh people are still affected by the flood devastation which has paralyzed the state, rendering many homeless.

As learnt, the Barak river which is in spate right now can take an even more dangerous form any moment.

Thus, for the safety of the people venturing out into the river, the said decision to cancel all ferry service has been taken.
