Assam Government issues Travel Advisory for its people says going to Mizoram is not safe at the moment

Guwahati: The government of Assam on 29 July issued a travel advisory notice for its people, to avoid travelling to its neighbouring state Mizoram because of the very recent clash and violence that took place at the border area of Lailapur, Assam Mizoram Border. The advisory has also asked the people of Assam who are staying at Mizoram or is there for work-related purpose, “exercise utmost caution.”

M S Manivannan, Assam Home Secretary, has stated in the notice that “given the prevailing situation, the people of Assam are advised not to travel to Mizoram as any threat to the personal safety of people of Assam cannot be accepted.”

The very recent 26 July incident of violence between the state in which Assam’s six policemen, as well as 1 civilian, were shot dead and more than 60 police were brutally injured. The advisory claimed that “certain members of Mizo civil society, students and youth organizations are constantly issuing provocative statements against Assam and its people.” The Assam police has evidence, video footage where it can be seen that many Mizoram civilians remain deployed armed with automatic weapons at the border.

Assam government has directed the Deputy Commissioners of Kamrup Metro and Cachar, to ensure the safety and security of all persons from Mizoram as well as those staying at Mizoram Houses at Guwahati and Silchar.
