Digital Desk: In a significant stride towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation, Tata Motors has unveiled the eagerly awaited Tata Punch iCNG in India today (August 4). The remarkable compact SUV has been introduced with a starting price of Rs 7.09 lakh (ex-showroom), marking a pioneering effort by Tata Motors to enhance the availability of green mobility solutions.
The Tata Punch iCNG is poised to redefine the realm of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, as it showcases similar twin-cylinder technology that has been successfully employed in the CNG variant of the popular Tata Altroz. What sets this technology apart is its ability to maintain a spacious boot area without compromising on the vehicle's storage capacity – an innovation that addresses a significant concern for many CNG vehicle owners.
Underpinning the Punch iCNG's remarkable capabilities is the modern and proven ALFA Architecture platform. Notably, this platform has already received the prestigious 5-Star Global NCAP adult safety rating, reaffirming Tata Motors' unwavering commitment to passenger safety. This robust foundation ensures that the Punch iCNG offers a secure and dependable driving experience.
At the heart of the Tata Punch iCNG is a formidable 1.2-liter Revotron engine, generating a power output of 73.4 PS @6000 rpm and a torque of 103 Nm @ 3230 rpm. To further enhance safety, the vehicle is equipped with thermal incident protection. This feature promptly cuts off the CNG supply to the engine and releases the gas into the atmosphere, thereby minimizing potential risks.
One of the standout design elements of the Punch iCNG is its twin-cylinder setup, ingeniously positioned below the luggage area. This arrangement not only maximizes safety but also shields crucial components like valves and pipes under the load floor, mitigating the risk of damage. Additionally, the vehicle boasts an enhanced rear body structure and a robust 6-point mounting system for the CNG tanks, providing an extra layer of rear crash safety.
The Punch iCNG's feature-packed interior is sure to captivate tech-savvy customers. Advanced amenities such as a Voice Assisted Electric Sunroof, Front Seat Armrest, USB-C Type Charger, and a Shark Fin Antenna are sure to elevate the driving experience. The vehicle will be equipped with a range of intuitive features including Automatic Projector Headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), 16" Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels, a 7" Harman™ Infotainment System supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, Rain Sensing Wipers, and a Height-Adjustable Driver Seat, among many others.
In a bid to expand the availability of twin-cylinder technology, Tata Motors has also incorporated this groundbreaking innovation into the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor CNG models, providing a broader range of options for environmentally conscious consumers.
The launch of the Tata Punch iCNG represents a remarkable stride towards a greener and more sustainable future in the Indian automotive landscape. With its cutting-edge technology, spacious design, and commitment to safety, the Tata Punch iCNG is poised to transform the way we think about CNG vehicles. As Tata Motors continues to drive innovation in the automotive sector, the Punch iCNG stands as a testament to the company's dedication to a cleaner and safer tomorrow.
