3 LeT terrorists killed in Kupwara encounter, infiltration bid foiled

The encounter started when the army and police intercepted the infiltrating terrorists.

Digital Desk: Three terrorists linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara area on Thursday morning, Kashmir Zone police said. Reportedly, after getting specific information about a terrorist infiltration operation in Kupwara's Jumagund village, the police conducted an operation. The encounter started when the army and police intercepted the infiltrating terrorists.

"Based on a specific input developed by #KupwaraPolice regarding infiltration attempt of #terrorists in village Jumagund, Kupwara, an #encounter had started when the infiltrating terrorists were intercepted by #Army & #Police," Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, who gave an update on the encounter, said that all three terrorists were linked to the banned terror group LeT, had been slain, and their identities were verified. Further, he added that the terrorists' incriminating documents, including arms and ammunition, have been recovered.

Notably, the incident occurred just one day after LeT terrorists assassinated a television star who shared her music on social media. Her 10-year-old nephew, who was also at home, was also hit in the arm by a bullet.

Moreover, the Resistance Front (TRF), a local offshoot of Pakistan's LeT, assassinated an off-duty J&K Police officer, Saifullah Qadri, in front of his nine-year-old daughter at Anchar Soura in Srinagar on Tuesday, inciting great hatred in the region. When the extremists opened fire on them, the child allegedly sought to save her father. Her status is said to be stable despite bullet damage to her arm.
