Digital Desk: On Tuesday, the BJP students union held a protest demanding the immediate arrest and dismissal of the Aligarh Muslim University's (AMU) Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College assistant professor for reportedly "insulting" Hindu deities during a classroom lecture. Reportedly, protests were held at the Civil Lines police station by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
The student wing's leader, Amit Goswami, claimed that Dr. Jitendra Kumar of the AMU's Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College had "conspired to defame" Hindu religious sentiments deliberately.
S Pandey, Civil Lines Circle Officer of Police, said an investigation was underway and that necessary action would be taken against the accused if found guilty.
In this context, Tariq Mansoor, Vice-Chancellor of AMU, had formed a four-member committee to investigate the matter. Last week, the accused professor was suspended after a video clip of his PowerPoint class lecture on rape went viral on social media. Based on a complaint filed by a BJP youth leader, a case was filed against Kumar at the Civil Lines police station.

Kumar was given a show-cause notice for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. As per reports, during one of his classes, the professor showed a slide in class where he taught about rape in India and its historical and religious significance.
During the lecture, one of the slides discussed Brahma raping his daughter, Indra impersonating Rishi Gautam, and raping his wife, tulsi vivah: Lord Vishnu raping the wife of King Jalandhar. It also discussed the Nirbhaya rape, the Mathura rape case, and various types of marriages as per Hindu traditions.
However, later the assistant professor from the Department of Forensic Science issued an unconditional apology. He admitted that it was a mistake on his part and promised that nothing like this would happen again in the future.
