Digital Desk: The Centre increased Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's security from Z category CRPF security cover in the North-Eastern region to Z+ category CRPF security cover on an all-India basis on Friday, according to sources.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma's security arrangements were reviewed "in cooperation with the Central Security Agency." "It has been decided to increase his current CRPF security cover in the North East region to Z+ category on an all-India basis," the statement continued.
The union home ministry has asked the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the country's largest Central Armed Police Force, to assist.
VIP security coverings are divided into several categories: X, Y, Y+, Z, Z+. The Special Protection Group (SPG) is the prime minister's top echelon of protection.
The Z+ category is a security team of 150 people, comprising 10 or more NSG commandos and police officers.
