Digital Desk: A terror plan has been uncovered in Assam ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on Wednesday. According to the Bongaigaon police, interrogation of three recently arrested members of the Ansarul Bangla Team (a group suspected of being linked to Al-Qaida) has led them to a fourth person in the state's north-eastern region.
In light of this, Congress has blamed the state's insurgency on the ruling BJP.
"A total of four persons have been apprehended. Incriminating documents had also been confiscated and were currently being scrutinized by the police," Bongaigaon, Superintendent of Police, stated today.
Notably, in recent times, the Assam Police have detained roughly 16 people from various parts of the state, including a Bangladeshi terrorist, for their ties to the Ansarul Bangla Team (ABT) and Al-Qaida Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). According to Additional Director General of Police (Special Branch) Hiren Nath, the ABT was a supporter of Al-Qaeda and the ISI.
"The kingpin is a man named Md Suman alias Saiful Islam alias Haroon Rashid, who hails from Bangladesh's Narayanganj district. He managed to flee Bangladesh. The anti-terror tribunal in Dhaka issued a death sentence against six people in February last year, and he was one of the six people who went missing," Nath said to ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive at Dimapur airport at 11 am tomorrow and then will fly to Diphu, Karbi Anglong, by helicopter. He'll address at Loringthepi's "unity, peace, and development rally" and will lay the foundation of many educational and development projects worth more than Rs 500 crore.
Following this, Modi will travel to Dibrugarh, where he will dedicate the Dibrugarh Cancer Centre to the country at the Assam Medical College Hospital.
The government of Assam has made extensive preparations for PM Modi's day-long visit to the state on Thursday, with chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma supervising the preparations.
