A few days ago, a news had created quite a flutter when a brother of an IPS officer from Assam had gone missing who later appeared to have joined the banned terrorist group-Hizbul Mujahideen as per media reports.
The alleged absconding IPS brother’s picture appeared on the social media holding an AK-47 rifle which soon went viral all over on social media on Sunday.
The terrorist brother Inan-Ul Mengnoo is a 2012 batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer now posted as Commandant, battalion Mandakata, North Guwahati.
According to the details, provided in the photograph, Shamshul joined the Hizbul Mujahideen on May 22, the day he went missing. He has been given the code name Burhan Sani.
As per reports, Shamsul was pursuing a Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery degree in a government college at Zakura, on the outskirts of Srinagar in Jammu &Kashmir, when he went missing in May this year. He hails from Draggus village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Speaking exclusively to media on his missing brother’s whereabouts, Superintendent of Police, Inan Ul Mengnoo who was previously posted in West Karbi Anglong when his brother went missing has said, “I am cent percent sure my brother has not joined any terror groups in Kashmir, but we are yet to ascertain his whereabouts.”
While on the other hand, Kashmir as well as Assam Police are trying to confirm the authenticity of the information regarding the veracity of reports of Shamshul joining the Hizbul Mujahideen.
The Hizbul Mujahideen is a banned Kashmiri separatist militant organization founded by Muhammad Ahsan Dar in September 1989. Holding a pro-Pakistan ideology, the group is considered to be the largest indigenous militant group in Kashmir.
