Digital Desk: Eknath Shinde took oath as the chief minister of Maharashtra on Thursday at the Raj Bhavan. Moreover, Devendra Fadnavis, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, was sworn in as deputy chief minister.
Following their meeting with Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari to submit their claim for government formation, Fadnavis revealed Shinde's name as the next CM of Maharashtra at a press conference. Fadnavis has stated he would not serve in the government. However, a twist developed when BJP President JP Nadda stated that central leadership asked Fadnavis to join the cabinet as the deputy chief minister. A few minutes later, union home minister Amit Shah tweeted that Fadnavis would join Eknath Shinde's cabinet.
Shinde, the former Maha Vikas Aghadi government's urban development minister, rebelled against Shiv Sena head and then-chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. He and 39 other Sena MLAs camped at a hotel in Guwahati and afterward in Goa, making the Aghadi government a minority.
Thackeray announced his resignation from the post of chief minister on Wednesday night during a Facebook live speech after the Supreme Court declined to provide a stay of the governor's order to hold a floor test on Thursday.
