Members of the electoral college, which includes elected members of both houses of Parliament as well as elected members of legislative assemblies from all states, including the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry, elect the president.
Nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha and legislative assemblies of the states are not permitted to be included in the electoral college and hence are not allowed to vote in the election.
Moreover, members of the legislative councils are not eligible to vote in the presidential election.
The presidential elections were held on July 17, 2017, and the results were declared on July 20.
