An inquiry into Sunil Jakhar's criticism of former Punjab Chief Minister C.S. Channi was launched by the party's disciplinary panel on Monday, party officials said.
Mr Jakhar must respond within seven days to this notice.
Mr Jakhar had questioned Mr Channi's appointment as party chairman following the ouster of Amarinder Singh in a TV interview.
