    Sonia & Rahul Gandhi summoned by the ED in 'National Herald' money laundering case

    The CBI recently questioned top Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Bansal as part of the inquiry.


    Digital Desk: The Enforcement Directorate summoned Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for interrogation in a money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper on Wednesday. 


    The case has been filed to look into possible financial glitches at the party-promoted Young Indian, which belongs to the National Herald newspaper.


    Officials said that the agency wants to record Sonia and Rahul Gandhi's statements under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).


    Associated Journals Limited (AJL) publishes the National Herald, which is owned by Young Indian Pvt Limited. The CBI recently questioned top Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Bansal as part of the inquiry.


    Meanwhile, Party spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala confirming the ED summons, said, "The British suppressed the National Herald newspaper when it first appeared in 1942. The Modi government is doing the same thing today, and the ED is being exploited. Our president, Sonia Gandhi, and her brother, Rahul Gandhi, have been served with a notice by the ED."
