Digital Desk: The government has prolonged State Bank of India Chairman Dinesh Khara's tenure till August of next year, reports news agency Reuters.
Dinesh Khara took over as SBI's Chairman on October 7, 2020, originally for a three-year term.
According to two government sources quoted by the news agency, Dinesh Khara's tenure as SBI Chairman has been extended until he turns 63 next year.
This extension is consistent with the regulatory requirement that allows the Chairman of the SBI to serve until the age of 63.
Within SBI circles, Khara is known as a general banking specialist. Apart from that, during his time in the overseas expansion wing, Khara was assigned to the bank's Chicago branch and was involved in the foreign acquisition of Indian Ocean International Bank Mauritius.
Khara has a Masters in Business Administration from FMS New Delhi and is a post-graduate in Commerce. He additionally holds a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB).
According to the sources, the government will issue an official notification regarding this extension in the near future.
Furthermore, the government is considering extending the SBI chairman's age limit by two years, letting them serve until the age of 65.
Reportedly as per sources, there is also a discussion of raising the age restriction for managing directors of other state-owned banks from 60 to 62 years.
