Digital Desk: Tata Electronics, a division of the Tata Group, may soon begin manufacturing Apple iPhones in India as it is acquiring the Wistron production facility in Karnataka. For those who are unaware, Tata Electronics presently supplies iPhone components to Wistron, one of Apple's largest iPhone makers.

Tata Group is reportedly offering $612.6 million (Rs 5,000 crore) for the acquisition. However, neither of the companies has yet announced anything about the deal. If Tata Group acquires the Wistron facility, it will become the first Indian company to manufacture Apple iPhones in India.

If the acquisition talks fail, Tata Group may set up a joint manufacturing venture with Wistron to make Apple iPhones in India. Wistron began manufacturing iPhones in India roughly 5 years ago with the iPhone SE 2. Currently, the tech giant produces the iPhone SE, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14 in India.

Apple has a long history in India, dating back more than 20 years ago. Apple launched its online store in the country in September 2020, and the company plans to strengthen its commitment with the upcoming launch of an Apple retail store.
