India’s longest Rail-road Bridge is going to be a major boost to defence logistics along the border with China, which is likely going to check the major checkpoints along the disputed territories bordering China.
Bogibeel Road-rail Bridge
While all the major civil work would be completed by July this year, two more months would be required to finish the electrical and signaling work on the 4.94 km bridge, said Mahender Singh, Chief Engineer, construction, Bogibeel project.
After the completion of the work on the Bogibeel Bridge, the road cum rail bridge will be the second longest bridge in Asia which will have three service lane roads on top and double rail line below.
The bridge is fashioned on a bridge that links Sweden and Denmark and 32 metres above the water level of the mighty Brahmaputra.
As per sources, the Bogibeel Bridge project is slated to be one of the largest projects to have ever taken place in Assam which will also prove to be one of the major symbol of development to have ever taken place in the entire north east.

The Bogibeel Bridge will prove as the focal point to improve logistics along the border in Arunachal Pradesh. This includes construction of a trans-Arunachal highway on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, and new road and rail links over the mighty river and its major tributaries such as the Dibang, Lohit, Subansiri and Kameng.
As of now, the rail cum road bridge will be linking to Arunachal Pradesh through three Assam bridges- Jogighopa in Bongaigaon district, Saraighat near Guwahati, and Kolia-Bhomora between Sonitpur and Nagaon.
