The Central Bureau of Investigation here on Thursday was asked to probe on the alleged Nagaland High Court Building construction scam in Kohima. The Gauhati High Court has asked the CBI to investigate the matter and sub a report based on the investigation within a period of three months.
Sources stated that the Gauhati High Court asked the CBI to investigate the alleged scam while hearing petitions filed by Social and RTI activists from Nagaland.
It has been alleged that the construction began in 2007 but the basic structure of the site is not completed. Even though the basic structure was not completed, the Nagaland government allegedly withdrew Rs 44.24 for connecting the structure with electricity and water supply.
Sources also allege that apart from the government sanctioned amount of withdrawal money amounting to RS 22.42 crore for the construction of bungalows for the judges. But, the area of these bungalows was not shown.
The Gauhati High Court hearing the petition also stated that the Nagaland Government’s payment of Rs 1.3 crore as consultancy fee for the construction can be termed as ‘beyond belief’.
The petitioners have alleged that in the past 11 years only 35 percent of the work has been completed with an estimated budget of Rs 43 crore but between 2009 to 2017, there were 18 withdrawals by the Justice and Law Department, Nagaland from the state exchequer and the project cost increased to Rs 52 crore.
