Digital Desk: Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla and the world's richest man, lost $10 billion in one day after sexual harassment allegations against him surfaced in the media. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk's net worth was approximately $212 billion on Thursday when the news came. His wealth, however, has fallen to around $201 billion.
Reportedly, SpaceX, the billionaire's aerospace company, paid an air hostess $250,000 in 2018 to keep quiet about an alleged sexual misconduct incident involving the world's richest man. According to Business Insider, a flight attendant who worked on SpaceX's corporate jet fleet on a contract basis accused Musk of revealing his erect penis, touching her leg without approval, and offering to buy her a horse in exchange for an erotic massage.
However, Musk, who owns approximately 47 per cent of SpaceX, has refuted the claims.
The performance of the billionaire's automotive company Tesla in public markets had the greatest impact on his wealth. According to the BBC, Musk owns about 15% of the company. Tesla's stock dropped 6.4% after the sexual misconduct allegations were made public.
According to Bloomberg, leaving aside the incident, the world's richest man is now over $69 billion a poorer year to date. This could be due in part to the Tesla stock's decline due to a global stock market selloff.
Meanwhile, Musk last month bought Twitter for $44 billion. However, on May 13, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the acquisition of Twitter had been temporarily halted. The Tesla CEO stated that the transaction had been put on hold pending details supporting the calculation that spam/fake accounts represent less than 5% of users.
