‘Come, join my party’: PM Modi gets offer to join new political party

Jerusalem: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an anomalous offer from its Israeli counterpart to ‘join his political party’. Sharing some light moment from their busy schedules at the COP26 climate summit, the Israeli PM Naftali Benett called PM Modi ‘The most popular man in Israel.’ Mr. Bennett also invited PM Modi to ‘join his political party’ at which PM Modi burst out in laughter animatedly.

The two leaders met for the first time on Tuesday on the sidelines of the COP26 climate summit during which they reviewed the bilateral ties besides exchanging views about expanding cooperation in areas of high-technology and innovation. Their maiden formal meeting came after their brief interaction on Monday during the climate conference.

India shares close ties with Israel and the two countries have been working closely together for years on counter-terrorism and defence issues. The bilateral ties between the countries were elevated to a strategic partnership during the historic visit of Prime Minister Modi to Israel in 2017, making him the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel in the last 70 years.

“I want to thank you. You’re the person who restarted the relationship between India and Israel, which is a deep relationship between two unique civilizations – the Indian civilization, the Jewish civilization – and I know it comes from your heart,” Mr Bennett told PM Modi at the start of the meeting.
