Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) expressed anger over the state government for delay in deciding the place for the cremation of the former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
APCC President Ripun Borsa said that even after there are thousands of bighas of government land lying vacant in the city, still the government has not yet decided the ground for cremation of the veteran politician.
Meanwhile, the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner said that the government has not found proper place to cremate the Congress leader. Reacting on the DC’s comment, Bora said, “As Gogoi’s family wants to perform the last rites in Guwahati, the government should allot a plot for the cremation ground. I urge the government to allot a plot of land for the cremation.”
Bora further said that they want the government to decide the plot as where would the cremation take place and if they can’t allot the land, we have decided to perform the last rites in the Manabendra Sarma Complex.
On the other hand, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while talking about the allotment of government land for cremation said that the government has not got any land in the city. “We are trying to allot the land. Earlier, the state government has not allotted any land to any chief minister’s demise but if Gogoi’s family wants we can allot land in Amingaon or Sonapur. I have also discussed with the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M) and we will be obliged if we can allot the land in Amingaon as many developmental works has been done during the tenure of Tarun Gogoi-led government,” the minister said.
