Does Hagrama Mohilary have a political career ahead?

Hagrama Mohilary, a former BLT leader who headed the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) for 17 long years, said his regional party, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) would be crucial for any of the three alliances – one led by the ruling BJP, the other by Congress and the third of two new regional parties – to form the next government in Assam. But with due course of time, the friendship between BJP and BPF turned bitter, thus the political stronghold of BPF started wobbling.

He had a strong belief that any alliance would need BPF’s support to form the government in Assam, as for 15 long years BPF played a key role in forming the government, but things took a turn and did not happen as per the plan.

Hagrama Mohilary asserted that the BJP has betrayed them (BPF). BPF played a major role to take the reins from the congress in Assam and channel it towards the BJP.

During a North East Democratic Alliance meeting, he, ( Hagrama Mohilary ) said that Sarbanada Sonowal should retain his position as the CM of Assam and the high command of BJP must take decisions crucially, this statement of his has initiated a strong sense of rivalry in the mind of honorable then minister Dr. Himanta Biwsa Sarma, according to him.

He (Hagrama Mohilary ) also pointed that Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma presented an unpropitious report to the Honourable Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister stating that BJP should break alliance with BPF and tie-up with UPPL instead.

He also stated that the BTC elections were not carried out in a standard and free and fair manner. He pointed out that Dr. Himanta Biswa sarma used money, police, and the power of his administration illegally to rig the polls.

However, after the 2020 elections it became very clear that the BPF could not sustain the BJP politics, all the allegations of Hagrama Mohilary against BJP were proved out to be absurd.

Many of the BTC members of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) switched over to United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), an ally of the BJP,  This shift of members from the party has stripped the BPF of its status as the single largest party in the council.

Now, what would happen to the political career of BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary, as most of his members merged with BJP allies with a motive of an inclusive government by everyone, who seeks to be a part of the government!

Is merging with the BJP or its allies is the only option left for the BPF leader, or does he believe in the idiom, “ a lion takes two steps back before attacking its prey”.
