Drone Carrying IED Shot Down near Indian Border in Jammu, 5 kg Explosives Recovered

Jammu: A drone identified as Hexacopter was shot down by the Security forces around six kilometres inside the Indian border in the Kanachak area of Jammu on Friday.

As per reports of Jammu and Kashmir police, approximately 5 kilograms of an improvised explosive device (IED) were recovered from the drone which was attached to one wing of the drone.

ADGP Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh said, “In the wee hours of Friday, information was received by the Jammu district police that a drone had been spotted near the international border of Kanachak. A Quick Reaction Team, as part of the anti-drone strategy, was pressed into action. It shot down the drone.”

“It was a Hexacopter with a flight controller & GPS. Interestingly, the serial number of the flight controller is a digit different from the drone which was found in Kathua, last year. This drone is an assembled one with some parts from China, others from Taiwan.” added the ADGP.

The police said they are ascertaining the purpose of transporting the IED material, as to whether it was supposed to be air-dropped or transported to some other location.

According to the preliminary investigation, the police said that the IED was to be assembled and used by terrorists. Moreover, the police doubted that the Lashkar-e-Taiba could be using this modus operandi.

Earlier, on June 27, a drone had dropped explosives at the technical airport of the IAF in Jammu where two IAF personnel were injured.
