‘Durga Fighter’ force formed to combat Naxalism in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma

Sukma: To fight against Naxalism in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, a force named ‘Durga Fighters,’ comprising of 32 female staff, has been constituted by the Chhattisgarh police report said.

Reportedly, the 32 females will be trained for commando duty for a month.

Superintendent of Police of Sukma, Sunil Sharma, said, “On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Chhattisgarh women commandos met the officials to constitute a District Reserve Force (DRG) team. The proposal has been accepted by the officials and by it, a team of 32 female staff named ‘Durga Fighters’ has been constituted.”

“They will be trained for commando duty for a month and will perform all active duty,” added Sharma.

Further, Sharma asserted the main idea behind the formation of this force is to promote gender equality.

Captain of ‘Durga Fighters,’ Asha Sen said, “All the force members had pledged to make Sukma a ‘Naxal Free Region’.”

“In the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan just like brothers and sisters make a promise to protect each other, we have taken the pledge to protect the people of the Sukma region from the Naxalites,” added Sen. 

Further, Sen stated that they now feel equal to men as they have been placed in the District Reserve Guards (DRG) team.
