New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Lalit Goyal, vice chairman and managing director of the Ireo Group, on Tuesday. ED arrested Goyal in connection with a money laundering case. Goyal was held after four days of questioning.
Last week, the realtor was arrested at the Delhi Airport when he was about to catch a flight to move out of the country. The Enforcement Directorate had circulated a lookout against Goyal.
“Real estate firm IREO promoter Lalit Goyal was arrested at Delhi Airport by migration officials and was handed over to ED. He is being investigated. His statement is being recorded by ED in a case of money laundering and diversion of funds of investors,” said an ED official.
“A lookout circular was issued against him in a case registered at Chandigarh. The ED questioned him in a case of alleged money laundering and diversion of funds of investors,” the official added.
Officials further said that he was “misleading” while responding to the investigators’ questions.
Goyal’s name also counted in the ‘Pandora Papers’ global leak of foreign stocks.
The businessman and his legal team had previously denied any illegalities on their part. They have said no funds were diverted abroad in breach of laws.
