Digital Desk: A school in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has introduced India's first AI teacher, Iris. Developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edutech, Iris is a humanoid robot teacher and a part of the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project initiated by NITI Aayog in 2021. 

The KTCT Higher Secondary School, under the Kaduvayil Thangal Charitable Trust, unveiled Iris last month, showcasing its multilingual capabilities. Iris can answer complex questions across various subjects, offering personalised voice assistance and enabling interactive learning experiences. Notably, Iris is equipped with wheels for enhanced mobility.

This innovation represents a significant shift in Kerala's education landscape, aiming to personalise learning, cater to diverse learning styles, and enhance student engagement. While the long-term impact is yet to be fully realized, Iris provides a glimpse into the future of education, where AI acts as a supportive element in the classroom.
