'OTT has become Dhanda for Producers; quality ekdam kharab ho chuka hai': Nawazuddin

Mumbai: Feeling pessimist about the future of OTT in India, 'Sacred Games' actor Nawazuddin Siddique says that as OTT has become a business for the producers, the quality of the content has been ruined.

Nawazuddin Siddique feels that big banner-based production houses are dominating OTT streaming platforms, and they are coming up with run-of-the-mill content.

Alleging that streaming platforms are no longer coming up with engaging content, the actor stated, "In the beginning, OTT started well in India and had opened new scopes for actors and filmmakers of the nation. But now, it slowly started degrading from its position due to the low quality of the contents."

"I felt it is losing its novelty. Every day lots are releasing out, but Quality ekdum kharab ho chuka hai. Ek dum cliched ho chukka hai. It can be compared with the television series where you keep on stretching and making series after series." added Siddique.

Stressing about giving a chance to the budding talents of the nation, Siddique said that there are many ardent filmmakers and actors who deserve to exhibit their talent, but they don't get the chance.

"The audience also demands to watch quality content, but in contrast, the big production houses are churning out ordinary and extra length content which the audience didn't watch to see in the OTT platform." said Siddique.

Moreover, speaking about his popularity after 'Sacred Games,' he asserted that now, whenever I would travel abroad, many people when they recognized me, called me Ganesh Gaitonde (his character in Sacred Games).

"But now same thing didn't happen with the actors as the quality of the content has been deteriorated. People are bored of watching the same thing, and that is why now we hardly see any web series or films which have been widely praised in recent times," said Siddique.

Siddique also rebuts rumors of working with Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan in a web series and said presently; he is not interested in doing anything on OTT unless something excites him comes up.
