Bulli Bai App Controversy: Javed Akhtar seeks compassion for 18-year-old mastermind

Digital Desk: Following the arrest of an 18-year-old woman by Mumbai Police in connection with the Bulli Bai app controversy, famous lyricist Javed Akhtar offered his thoughts on the matter, imploring people to forgive her because she recently lost her parents to cancer and COVID-19.

Mr. Akhtar, who has been vocal about his thoughts on the case, used his Twitter account on Wednesday to appeal to the public to be kind and forgive the girl.

He tweeted, "If "bully bai" was really masterminded by an 18 year old girl who has recently lost her parents to cancer and Corona I think the women or some of them meet her and like kind elders make her understand that why what ever she did was wrong . Show her compassion and forgive her."

For the uninformed, Mr. Akhtar attacked some social media users who questioned his great-great-grandfather Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi's honour after he questioned PM Modi and spoke out against the ongoing 'Bulli Bai' scandal on Tuesday.

The controversy erupted after hundreds of Muslim women's images were taken from their social media accounts and published on an app that would subsequently invite people to bid on their auction.

Meanwhile, apart from the 18-year-old woman, a 21-year-old engineering student was also held in Bengaluru in a raid by a Mumbai Police team in connection with the Bulli Bai App controversy.

In the same case, another person, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was arrested on Wednesday.
