Designer Prabal Gurung invited Alia Bhatt to the Met Gala in past, but she declined; Here's why

Digital Desk: Alia Bhatt just made India proud by making her big debut at the Met Gala 2023. The Internet was ecstatic to see her walk the red carpet in Prabal Gurung's white dreamlike costume. 

Following a successful show, the renowned designer took to social media to recall his first meeting with Alia. Prabal also mentioned in his lengthy thank you email that he had previously invited Alia to the Met Gala, but she had always declined.

Prabal shared lovely photos of Alia Bhatt from the Met Gala, along with a descriptive letter. He claimed in his post that he first met Alia at Karan Johar's 40th birthday celebration in Mumbai. "It was my dearest friend @karanjohar's 40th birthday in Mumbai, where I first met @aliaabhatt," he wrote in his post. I'd heard nothing but good things about her from him and my brother @praveshgurung, who was aiding Karan on her debut film. When I first met her, I was immediately taken with her. A small ingénue had a smouldering fire within her that we could all feel. She has consistently outperformed everyone's expectations and delighted us with her creative genius. She's a standout performer. To me, she is one of the best performers working today, but above all, she is a friend, a wonderful friend, and a loyal friend; that is what makes her so unique."

"We've talked about a Met moment for a long time," he continued. I've invited her before, but she's always been savvy enough to respond, "Let's wait." This time, though, she felt it was the appropriate time, so she said okay, and off we went with Anaita to construct a homage to Karl that recognised Alia's background, my love for Karl (he is my master, and yes, he did give me my CVFF award). More than 100,000 pearls were hand stitched in India on silk tulle and manufactured in New York at Atelier Prabal Gurung. "A well-travelled gown for the global superstar." 

'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty' was the theme for this year. Alia donned fingerless gloves as a tribute to the legendary German fashion designer and creative director, who died in 2019 at the age of 85. Alia's first appearance wowed fans. Her Met Gala photos and videos have been taken over the Internet.

Alia will star alongside Ranveer Singh in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. She is also working on Jee Le Zara with Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra.
