Digital Desk: Pradeep Sarkar, well known for his films "Parineeta" and "Mardaani," died in a hospital early Friday, as said by his wife Panchali. He was aged 67.
Reportedly, after a fever, the director was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Lilavati hospital in suburban Bandra.
"He died between 3.10 and 3.30 a.m. in Lilavati hospital," his wife said.
"Doctors said he had several diseases that impaired his immunity. His blood pressure was erratic. He had been quite feeble when COVID-19 afflicted him in July 2022 "According to Panchali.
Sarkar's last rites will take place at the Santacruz Hindu Crematory at 4 p.m.
The director began his career as an ad filmmaker, directing commercials for well-known businesses around the country. In addition, he directed music videos for Shubha Mudgal's "Ab Ke Saawan," Euphoria's "Dhoom Pichak Dhoom," and Sultan Khan's "Piya Basanti."
He made his directorial debut in 2005 with "Parineeta," a historical drama based on novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's 1914 Bengali book of the same name. The filmmaker was given the National award.
The Vidya Balan-Saif Ali Khan starrer won the award for best debut film of a filmmaker.
His previous films include "Laaga Chunari Mein Daag" (2007), "Lafangey Parindey" (2010), "Mardaani" (2014), and "Helicopter Eela" (2018).
Sarkar's death shocked his peers in the film industry.
