Digital Desk: Kangana Ranaut has joined the long list of Bollywood celebrities who have praised the new Hindi film Pathaan. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer opened to a roaring welcome on Wednesday and is on its way to set the record for the biggest opening by a Bollywood film. Kangana addressed the media about the film's success and lauded it at an event on Wednesday evening.
Kangana attended the wrap party for Emergency, in which she plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She and co-star Anupam Kher addressed the media on the red carpet. Anupam called Pathaan a "great film" when questioned about it. In Hindi, Kangana said, "It is so good. I heard that Pathaan is doing well. Films like these should be successful. I feel Hindi cinema has been left behind and every person has been trying at their level (to change that)."
The video of her interaction was widely circulated on social media, with people congratulating her for appreciating Pathaan. Many, however, remarked that Kangana did not deliver her usual outspoken opinion this time. Earlier in the day, Kangana had written a Twitter thread about how the film industry is "crude and crass" for celebrating films' success by "flashing monetary digits." Although she did not mention any specific movie, many made the connection to Pathaan's commercial success.
Pathaan is a fictional character in the YRF Spy Universe. John Abraham and Deepika Padukone are also featured in the Siddharth Anand movie. The movie already smashed the record for the largest advance booking for a Bollywood movie, and according to industry experts, it will also smash all opening day records. In India, the film is expected to gross more than Rs 50 crore. The all-time record for a Hindi film belongs to the dubbed version of KGF Chapter 2 at Rs 54 crore.
