Digital Desk: Christian Oliver, a German-born Hollywood actor best known for films like Speed Racer, and his two daughters perished in a plane crash on January 4. In the eastern Caribbean, the disaster happened close to Petit Nevis Island, a private island off the coast of Bequia. St. Vincent and the Grenadines police said that the plane was flying toward St. Lucia.
In addition to the actor, 51, the crash claimed the lives of his daughters, Madita Klepser, 10, and Annik Klepser, 12. Pilot Robert Sachs perished in the collision as well, according to the officials. However, authorities said that it was not immediately apparent what caused the disaster. The performer went by Christian Klepser as well.
As the St. Vincent and Grenadines Coast Guard arrived at the scene, local divers and fishermen raced to the crash site to offer assistance.
The police were quoted by the AP as saying, "We are extremely grateful for the fishermen's and divers' brave and selfless actions."

Oliver, who had numerous creditable parts in films and television shows, was born in Germany. He made appearances in two Steven Soderbergh films: The Good German (2006), which is about World War II and also starred George Clooney and Cate Blanchett, and Speed Racer (2008), a sports action comedy.
