IPL online betting case: Rapper Badshah questioned by Maharashtra Police cyber cell

Rapper Badshah appears at the Maharashtra Cyber office for promoting viewing of IPL on the betting app...

Digital Desk: Bollywood rapper Badshah found himself in hot water as he appeared at the Maharashtra Cyber office on Monday. The reason behind his visit is the recently filed FIR by Viacom 18 Network, alleging that Badshah and 40 other prominent actors, including Sanjay Dutt, were involved in promoting the illegal streaming of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches on the controversial betting app, Fairplay.

Viacom 18 claims to possess Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) to stream IPL matches legally. However, they assert that Fairplay was used to pirate the matches, with certain actors actively endorsing the tournament on the illicit platform.

This case centers around digital piracy, and further summonses are expected for other actors allegedly involved in the scandal.

Fairplay is reportedly linked to the Mahadev app, promoted by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal. Currently, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating the Mahadev Book app for potential money laundering activities.

Several celebrities, including Ranbir Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Kapil Sharma, and Shraddha Kapoor, have already been summoned in connection with the case. Additionally, Bollywood heavyweights like Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, and Tiger Shroff are under scrutiny, as they allegedly attended Chandrakar's wedding in the UAE earlier this year.
