Jio Studios announces new co-production with Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao

Digital Desk: Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao will co-produce and direct Laapataa Ladies, which will be released by io Studios. The comedic drama will be released in theatres on January 5, 2024.

According to film industry analysts, Jio Studios, a company of Reliance Industries Ltd, may invest up to 3,000 crore to boost Jio Cinema's subscription and advertising earnings.

Jio Studios announced earlier this year a strategy to build an ensemble of 100 films and online originals to boost the streaming platform's position and keep user engagement after the Indian Premier League (IPL) season ended.

The corporation began working on numerous film projects before to the pandemic and is now expected to directly stream a handful on its OTT platform, while others may be released in theatres.

"Our vision is to power stories from, by, and about India and Bharat, and to tell stories that not only entertain but also serve a purpose. We collaborate with storytellers in every Indian language to bring their stories to a wider audience. Our mission is to make in India and show the world that India is vast and inclusive, and we will ensure growth across the entire value chain," said Jyoti Deshpande, head of RIL's media and content unit, in a release.

Speaking of film specialists, they say it's very evident that they've been working on it for a long, and several films were already planned before the pandemic.

However, it appears that only 10% of its present slate is intended for theatres, where box office confirmation is required, while the remainder will be used to establish itself as a big player in the Indian OTT market.
