Digital desk: The BJP candidate from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Kangna Ranaut, sparked controversy in 2020 when she referred to Urmila Matondkar as "a soft porn star." Ranaut is running for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In a previous interview with Times Now, Kangana—who on Monday attacked a disparaging post made by a Congress lawmaker against her—made a contentious remark about Urmila.
“I saw one very derogatory interview given by Urmila Matondkar. The way she was talking about me, pulling faces, making a mockery about my struggles, attacking me on the fact that I am trying to appease BJP for a ticket. One doesn’t have to be a genius to figure that for me it is not very difficult to get a ticket. Urmila is a soft porn star. She is not known for her acting for sure, what is she known for? For doing soft porn right. If she could get a ticket, why wouldn’t I get a ticket?" Kangana Ranaut had said in September, 2020.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Urmila entered politics as a Congress candidate running in the Mumbai North seat. After a brief tenure in Congress, she resigned and joined Shiv Sena in 2020.
Kangana faced criticism from Urmila for disrespecting senior actor Jaya Bachchan, who made remarks in a 2020 speech in Parliament about the film industry being "tarnished."
“When Kangana was not even born, Jaya ji was in the film industry. We’re talking about a lady here (Jaya Bachchan) who has herself been an icon. Which part of Indian culture tells you to lash out at people like this?” Urmila had told NDTV in 2020.

"Dear @UrmilaMatondkar ji, I have been amazed by your acting prowess and exquisite dance as I recall your amazing performances in several films, including Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Chamatkar, Rangeela, Judaai, Daud, Satya, Bhoot, Kaun, Jungle, and Ek Hasina Thi. Love you," she wrote.
Kangna Ranaut has always created controversies as she disrespected many actors and actresses from different perspectives. Her struggle is an inspiration but her harsh comments have always gained negative responses from Bollywood as well as the audience.
