Digital Desk: Actress Nora Fatehi has filed a defamation suit against actress Jacqueline Fernandez, stating that she made "defamatory imputations for malicious reasons." Nora claimed in her petition that Jacqueline attempted to ruin her reputation.

Nora Fatehi has also alleged that Fernandez made imputations to destroy her career to further her own interests.  Nora submitted through her counsel, that Jacqueline made a "false statement" that was "unnecessary and unwarranted."

Jacqueline "unnecessarily pulled the complaint" and "defamed her as she is in the same industry and is completely aware that the business of any artist and their career are totally based on their reputation," her counsel submitted.

The Enforcement Directorate has questioned both Nora Fatehi and Jacqueline Fernandez in the Rs 200 crore extortion case involving conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Jacqueline is considered an accused in the case, whereas Nora is a witness.

"Jacqueline Fernandes sought to criminally defame the complainant in order to destroy her career to further her own interests, since they are both working in the same industry and have similar backgrounds, amongst other reasons," Nora Fatehi said in her plea.

Jacqueline had pleaded in front of the PMLA court that she was being wrongly accused by the investigation agency ED, while celebrities such as Nora Fatehi, who had also received gifts from Sukesh Chandrasekhar, had been called as witnesses.

Meanwhile, Jacqueline appeared in a Delhi court on Monday in connection with the money laundering case. The hearing was postponed by the court for a week. After learning from the attorney representing Fernandez that she has not yet received complete copies of the charge sheet and other documents from the ED, Special Judge Shailendra Malik postponed the case for December 20.
