Throughout the Levant, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which started in the middle of the 20th century, is still going strong. It has been one of the world's longest-running conflicts despite multiple attempts to end it as part of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and other attempts to end the more extensive Arab-Israeli conflict. On Sunday, 300 people were killed as a result of Hamas' multi-front operation against Israel, and more losses are predicted. 1,590 injuries, many of them critical, have reportedly been recorded.
