'Entertainment should never come at the expense of the truth..': Sara Tendulkar expresses concern over her viral deepfake photos

Several well-known people, including Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol, and Katrina Kaif, have recently being targeted by deepfake.

Digital Desk: The daughter of cricket great Sachin Tendulkar, Sara Tendulkar, issued a statement in response to deepfake images she noticed on social media. Sara also alerted her followers on Instagram about fake accounts on X (previously Twitter) that have been impersonating her and using her name.

“Social media is a wonderful space for all of us to share our joys, sorrows, and daily activities. However, it is disconcerting to see the misuse of technology as it takes away from the truth and authenticity of the internet. I have come across some deepfake photos of me which are far from reality,” she wrote.

"A few accounts on X (formerly Twitter) have obviously been created with an intent to impersonate me and mislead people. I do not have an account on X, and I hope X looks into such accounts and suspends them," she added .

Several well-known people, including Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol, and Katrina Kaif, have recently fallen prey to deepfake.

The term "deepfakes" describes artificial intelligence techniques, namely deep learning algorithms, that are used to create and modify movies, photos, or audio recordings.

Deepfakes are one of the biggest challenges facing India, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and they have the potential to destabilise society. Moreover, he asked the media to inform the public about deepfakes.
