Vivek Agnihotri's controversial The Kashmir Files ruled the box office by word of mouth publicity, while SS Rajamouli's RRR and Prashanth Neel's KGF: Chapter 2 made history by being two of the year's biggest global earners. Rishab Shetty's Kantara brought the audience back to their roots, while Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's pairing in the fantasy epic Brahmastra was well received. Here are the top hits of 2022.


    1. KGF Chapter 2

    Made on a massive budget of Rs 100 crore, Yash starrer KGF 2, directed by Prashanth Neel, made a whopping Rs 1200-Rs 12500 crores globally. It became the world's third-highest-grossing Indian film, the second-highest-grossing Indian film in India, and the highest-grossing Indian film of 2022.

    RRR, SS Rajamouli's magnum opus starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, was produced on a massive scale of Rs 550 crore. The film earned makers Rs 1200 for makers. In the movie, Alia Bhatt also made her South Asian film debut.

    Vivek Agnihotri's controversial retelling of the Kasmiri Pundits' exodus from the valley turned out to be a sleeper hit. The film grossed Rs 340 crore worldwide.


    4. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

    The Anees Bazmee film, starring Kartik Aaryan and Tabu in main roles, reportedly grossed Rs 266.88 crore worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022.


    5. Drishyam 2

    Even though the Ajay Devgn-starrer is still in theatres, it has surpassed the lifetime total of Bollywood's biggest blockbuster of 2022, "The Kashmir Files." According to the most recent report, Drishyam 2 earned Rs 230.75 crore nett in India, which equates to Rs 272.28 crore gross. So far, the film has made Rs 56.50 crore in overseas earnings. When these data are added together, the grand total is Rs 328.78 crore gross, which is larger than The Kashmir Files' lifetime collection (Rs 326.95 crore gross).


    6. Kantara

    Kantara, directed by Rishab Shetty, was another 2022 sleeper hit. The film grossed over Rs 400 crore at the box office despite being made on a shoestring budget of Rs 16 crore. A sequel for Kantara is underway.


    7. Avatar: The Way of Water

    Despite being criticized for its weak plot, Avatar 2's visuals worked wonders, with the film reportedly grossing $435 million at the global box office.
