    Actor Pankaj Tripathi awarded 'National Icon' status by ECI
    Pankaj Tripathi was named a national icon by the Election Commission of India on Monday during a ceremony in Delhi.

    Digital Desk: In an event on Monday afternoon, actor Pankaj Tripathi was named a "national icon" by the Election Commission of India. 

    The actor was chosen for the award because of "his association with ECI in raising voter awareness." The announcement was made in the presence of the actor in Delhi by the Chief Election Commissioner, who expressed his gratitude.

    Pankaj, who has appeared in films and television shows such as Mirzapur, Sacred Games, Mimi, and Newton, was already a state figure for the ECI. 

    While congratulating the actor, CEC Rajiv Kumar stated that the decision to name him a national icon was made with his commitment to the cause and vast appeal across the country in mind.

    Pankaj Tripathi addressed the gathering, recalling his experiences as a first-time voter. He claimed that the procedure granted him not just the right to vote, but also the right to be respected as a contributory voice in democracy. 

    The actor also advised all young voters to fully engage in the elections in order for their democratic choices to be reflected and their voices to be heard.

    Pankaj Tripathi who won a National Award has worked in the sector for about 20 years. Pankaj rose to stardom as Sultan Qureshi in Anurag Kashyap's cult classic two-part drama Gangs of Wasseypur after appearing in highly praised movies like Omkara, Dharm, and Aakrosh (2012). 

    Along with starring in well-liked web series like Mirzapur and Criminal Justice, he has gone on to work in numerous financially successful films.

    It's interesting to note that one of Pankaj's most well-liked parts concerned the election. He portrayed a CRPF officer tasked with holding elections in a conflict-ridden region in the jungles of Chhattisgarh in the 2017 film Newton, for which he received the National Award. Pankaj's next movie lineup is packed with OMG 2, which also stars Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam, and Arun Govil.
