Asha Bhosle once explained how she came to accept her relationship with late composer RD Burman. Today is her 89th birthday.
Digital Desk: Asha Bhosle, the singer, once told how her romance with her musician husband RD Burman began. In a 1993 interview, Asha stated that RD Burman was following her and would compliment her until she agreed to work with him. She also described how her late sister, singer Lata Mangeshkar, reacted to their romance.
In 1966, RD Burman married Rita Patel, It was his first marriage. However, they divorced in 1971. He eventually married Asha in 1980. They also split up a few years later. RD Burman and Asha recorded several songs together during their decades-long partnership, many of which became hits. They also appeared in live shows.
Asha answered a statement about how their relationship began while reliving old memories: "Asha tumhara sur bahut achha hai, main tumhari awaaz par fida hoon, yeh mere peechhe pade thhe. Finally, how are you? Okay, kar diya (He was after me, Asha, you have a great melody, and I'm enamored by your voice. What more could I do? I said okay)."
In response to her sister Lata Mangeshkar's and other family members' comments, Asha stated, "Didi ne aaj tak iss baare mein kabhi kuch nahin bola, na mujh se, na Pancham se (She hasn't spoken anything about the problem, neither to me nor to Pancham)." Pancham is another name for Rahul Dev (RD) Burman.
In her eight-decade career, Asha Bhosle has sung many songs in various languages. She was also nominated for two National Film Awards, four BFJA Awards, eighteen Maharashtra State Film Awards, nine Filmfare Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Grammys. Among her works are cinema music, ghazals, pop, bhajans, traditional Indian classical music, and folk songs.
Maang Ke Saath Tumhara, Saathi Haath Badhana, Uden Jab Jab Zulfein Teri are some of her well-known songs. Haseena Zulfonwali, Aaja Aaja, Mere Sona Re, Yeh Mera Dil, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja Dil Cheez Kya Hai, In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke, Mera Kuchh Saamaan, Tanha Tanha, Rangeela Re, Radha Kaise Na Jale, Kambakht Ishq, Yeh Lamha, and Lucky Lips are among many of the songs sung by Indipop queen Asha Bhosle.
