Guwahati: A strange phenomenon ‘Goru’ (cow) has gripped the state of Assam last week. Many youths have been sharing the poster of ‘Goru’, an upcoming film from Assam slated to be released on January 24. The curious-seeming poster of the film simply bears the image of a cow and the name of the Director, along with the date of release.
The ‘Goru’ phenomenon seems to have truly gripped the youth of Assam after a social media stunt in which the makers of the movie sent out an ad on October 19 proclaiming that a cow had been lost. Much confusion prevailed in the ensuing days and it was only after a while people realized that it was actually a social media stunt to promote the film.
Revealing the real reason behind the peculiar title, Writer-Director Himangshu Prasad Das told that the central character is a cow. He further said, “In the Assamese language, the word ‘goru’ is also used as a pejorative, thus the significance behind the title”. The film is based on a novel by an Assam writer Shah Jahan but there are some modifications made in the film version.
Incidentally, this will be the second feature film directed by the experienced and talented theatre artist. His earlier film “Shakira Ahibo Bokultolor Bihuloi” also had some innovative publicity design.
