Bihar court issues arrest warrant against Ekta Kapoor, mom Shobha for insulting Army in 'XXX'

Digital Desk: Trouble seems to be brewing for famous Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother. A Bihar court has issued arrest warrants for the producer and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, on grounds of disrespecting soldiers in Season 2 of her web series 'XXX.' The duo has been accused of hurting the sentiments of the families of soldiers.

The arrest warrant was issued after Ekta and Shobha Kapoor failed to appear for an earlier court summons. The legal issue is based on a complaint by ex-serviceman Shambhu Kumar, a resident of Begusarai, Bihar.

"The court had issued summons to them and asked them to appear before it on the basis of a complaint lodged by Shambhu Kumar, an ex-serviceman and a resident of Begusarai. But they did not appear before the court, following which a warrant was issued against them," Advocate Hrishikesh Pathak was quoted as saying by ANI.

This is not Ekta's first case; other cases have been filed against her in relation to the same web series. An FIR was registered against the producer in Indore earlier this month for allegedly hurting the feelings of army personnel and using the national anthem improperly in the series. In 2020, the Annapurna Police Station received a complaint that was filed under several sections of the IT Act and the Indian Penal Code.

The complainant, Neeraj Yagnik, stated that he submitted the complaint in response to the series improper use of the national emblem. A similar case was also made against the producer and her mother in the Mirzapur court in Bihar for allegedly disrespecting army personnel and their family members in the series that is aired on Alt Balaji, a subsidiary of Balaji Telefilms. Shobha, Ekta's mother, is the managing director of Mumbai-based Balaji Telefilms Limited.

Ekta gained media attention earlier this month after breaking down during the launch of the teaser for her upcoming movie, "Goodbye." While talking about her parents, Jeetendra and Shobha, the 47-year-old started to cry.
