Mumbai : Minister of Information and Broadcasting announced on Tuesday the news on Twitter that Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been unanimously selected for the prestigious Dadasahab Phalke Award, apparently the highest honour given in India for contribution to cinema. Incidentally the award comes in a year that marks the actor’s golden jubilee in cinema.

Amitabh Bachchan took to twitter and wrote that he was “humbled” and “grateful” on receiving the award. He said, “There is a paucity of words searching a response…for the generosity of words that pour in… I am but deeply grateful and most humbled…my sincerest gratitude.”
In the lead up to the announcement made by the government regarding the award being bestowed on Big B, the actor will receive a ‘Swarna Kamal’ (Golden Lotus) along with a shawl, a medallion and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.
A plethora of politicians, Bollywood stars and people from all walks of life congratulated the Bollywood star on his award and showered their love and praise on the star. The immensely film actor had earlier won the National Award for Best Actor four times and numerous accolades including fifteen Filmfare trophies for screen roles that started in 1969 with a role in Khwaja Ahmad Abbas’ “Saat Hindustani”.
