Digital Desk: Harry
Potter fans will soon have the chance to acquire some big memorabilia, as
Daniel Radcliffe's original spectacles will be put up for sale in the UK.
On November 11, the
renowned spectacles with the circular frame are expected to go up for sale.
They could sell for up to 20,000 British pounds, which is roughly $22,358. The
eyewear is one of the 57 pairs of glasses Mr. Radcliffe received for the 2001
release of the first Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone movie.
"This
particular pair of glasses was created for the movie. No nose plates, black
matte finish border, "Reads the item's description. The text reads,
"Also included are a set of brown plastic ear tips and a copy of the film.
The silver metal earpiece are topped with clear plastic."
The
"Harry Potter" glasses, according to the publication, are referred to
as "NHS style" in honour of the UK's National Health Service. Before
they became a global icon, they were purchased for 114 British pounds as a
prop. They are from legendary client Simor Murray, who has contributed to the
"Mission Impossible," "James Bond," and "Teriminator"
franchises.
In the meantime, it has been 25 years since the publication
of the renowned "Harry Potter" book series. J.K. Rowling's Harry
Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the first book in the series, was released
in 1997. The series, which was published by Bloomsbury Publishing, went on to
become one of the most renowned series ever.
A special collection of 50p Harry Potter coins was also
unveiled by the Royal Mint last month to mark the 25th anniversary of this
fantastical series. Jim Kay, who also drew the Harry Potter series, illustrated
four of the coins in the collection. Along with Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore,
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the Hogwarts Express are all
shown on the coins.
