Gujarati film 'Chhello Show' becomes India's Oscar entry for 2023
Chhello Show, directed by Pan Nalin, starring Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval, and Paresh Mehta.

Digital Desk: Chhello Show (Last Film Show) has been chosen as India's entry to the 95th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.

In a statement regarding Chhello Show becoming India's entry for the 2023 Academy Awards, director Pan Nalin said, "I could never have dreamed such a day would come and bring light and celebration of light." Chhello Show has received love from all over the world, but I was left wondering how I might help India discover it. Now I can take a deep breath and believe in cinema that entertains, inspires, and enlightens! Thank you, FFI, and Jury."

The Gujarati film, which is expected to be released in theatres on October 14, 2022, depicts young Samay's pursuit of the 35mm dream. Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval, and Paresh Mehta feature in the film. It will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021.

Chhello Show won the Golden Spur at the 66th Valladolid International Film Festival in October 2021.

    About the film's portrayal:

According to David Ehrlich of Indiewire, Chhello Show is a "coming-of-age drama" with "an ethereal take on the magic of movies." “ Last Film Show, a semi-autobiographical story set in Nalin's home state of Gujarat, may sound like a charming modern take on Cinema Paradiso, but — as you already know — this achingly sad requiem for a dream draws from a much deeper well of inspiration.

Sergio Leone and (early) Terrence Malick are two of them, and both come to mind as soon as we see nine-year-old Samay walking along the railroad tracks that stretch past the modest house where his overbearing father Bapuji (Dipen Raval) sells tea to passengers aboard the rickety trains that stop nearby.

Samay doesn't really know what cinema is at the start of the movie, but his life is already full of things, as played by Bhavin Rabari, a brilliant and compulsively fascinating nine-year-old Gujarati boy who shares many similarities with his character," depicts the synopsis.

The Kashmir Files and RRR were the two movies that were rumored to be India's submissions for the category, with RRR doing best outside. With the worldwide media, other filmmakers, and fans taking notice of the filmmaker's extraordinarily innovative storytelling, the SS Rajamouli epic has gained a broader audience since it was made available on Netflix.

In an effort to boost the odds that RRR would win an Oscar, SS Rajamouli has even said at some screenings in the US.

The 95th Academy Awards will be placed on March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
