Mumbai : It was a night full of glimmer and star studded extravaganza with the entire Bollywood coming under one roof for the International Indian Film Academy Awards 2019 (IIFA). The event saw some mind blowing and spell bounding performances by Vicky Kaushal, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Salman Khan and other celebrities.
Like the performances, the winners list too was quite interesting. Sriram Raghavan’s “Andha Dhun” won big at the awards by triumphing in five categories. Meghna Gulzar’s “Raazi” and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmaavat” grabbed four awards each. “Andha Dhun” won awards for Best Director, Critics’ Award for Best Film, Best Lyrics, Best Background Score and Best Editing
Meghna Gulzar directed “Raazi” got Best Film, Best Female Actor (Alia Bhatt), Best Playback singer-male (Arijit Singh) and Best Lyrics (Gulzar) awards. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmaavat” was successful in grabbing four awards for Critics’ Award for Best Actor (Male), Ranveer Singh; Best Music Album, Best Playback Singer (Female), Shreya Ghoshal for the song ‘Ghoomar’ and Best Choreography to Kruti Mahesh Midya and Jyoti Tomar for ‘Ghoomar’.
The evening also saw the Outstanding Achievement in Cinema award being bestowed upon veteran actor Jagdeep Jaffrey. Director Ramesh Sippy and Ranveer presented him the honour.
This year the event kickstarted in Mumbai’s Dome NSCI, SVP Stadium. IIFA 2019 was held in India after two decades of touring various cities across the globe. Film “Badhai Ho” too won three awards in different categories. “Tumbbad” also won Best Sound Design, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design awards.
