Telangana BJP leader files complaint against Ram Gopal Varma; details here

He demanded harsh punishment for the director and asked the police to file a report under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

Digital Desk: A BJP leader has lodged a complaint against director Ram Gopal Varma for making defamatory comments against Draupadi Murmu, the NDA's presidential nominee.

Telangana BJP leader Gudur Narayana Reddy reacted by filing a case at the Abid Road Police Station against the director, accusing him of demeaning the SC and ST communities.

"This tweet is disrespecting the SC and ST people. Here, he refers to the President as "Draupadi." We wouldn't have objected if he had just mentioned Draupadi, the Pandavas, and the Kauravas. These remarks from RGV have hurt us," the BJP members told ANI.

He demanded harsh punishment for the director and asked the police to file a report under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

A few days ago BJP-led NDA announced the name of  Draupadi Murmu for the upcoming Presidential election.

Further, Reddy stated that the former Governor of Jharkhand  has been nominated by the NDA government and by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,"

Notably, Murmu is the first prominent tribal woman to run for the presidential election. If elected, she will become India's first tribal President and the country's second female President.

Expressing his anger over ram Gopal Verma, he said, "Here, in this case, the police have promised us that they will take harsh action against RGV, and after that, I don't think he will again tweet or make such a terrible statement against anyone."

Reportedly, the BJP member provided the tweet to the police along with the complaint as supporting documentation.

However, Ram Gopal Varma later clarified his motive over the tweet, saying that they were "earnest irony" and that "nobody's sentiments" were "at all" wounded by it.

"This was said just in an earnest irony and not intended in any other way ..Draupadi in Mahabharata is my favourite character, but Since the name is such a rarity, I just remembered the associated characters and hence my expression. Not at all intended to hurt sentiments of anyone." Ram Gopal Varma later tweeted.

Ram Gopal Varma's remarks about the NDA's presidential candidate angered Goshamahal BJP MLA T Raja Singh, who claimed that the filmmaker tweets such things while he was in a "drunken condition."

"Varma always strives to be in the spotlight by making such divisive comments," he added.

Earlier also, Ram Gopal Varma had been involved in controversies on social media.

Earlier, in April, amid a Twitter debate between Ajay Devgn and Kichcha Sudeep over Hindi being the official language, the director weighed into the controversy by saying that "North stars insecure and jealous of the south stars."
